The narrator is way too slick and sounds like an usher at a fairground side-show; trying to smoothtalk the passers-by to come and have a look inside, while at the same time praising in subdued hints at what can be expected once inside. If that's the way Whip wanted the naarator to come across, well, then he did a terrific job. But I have a feeling that such isn't the case and that Whip wanted to create an intimate atmosphere by letting the main character talk directly to the audiance, being we, the readers. But that's where the story fails. Instead of creating that intimacy, the way the narrator speaks, it has the opposite effect due to the slickness I mentioned earlier. A slickness that doesn't entice enough trust for a cozy intimacy, let alone to follow him around. But, like I said, the story is well written... JJ
